Writing

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain Thought for the Writer's Day: Where do Writers Find Inspiration?

I heard a good quote on the car radio today. In Britain, my car radio dial is welded to BBC Radio 4; in the U.S. I listen to National Public Radio (NPR) a lot.

I didn't have my tape recorder to hand, so I can't tell you who we can attribute this quote to, but it's too good to keep to myself:

"Inspiration is for amateurs."

A jobbing writer writes. Inspiration isn't necessarily required. Even a weak writer can write well when the muse grabs them, but journeyman writers can turn out copy anytime.

Quote for the Writer's Day:

"TV... really is about the last thing an aspiring writer needs." From On Writing by Stephen King.
