Writing

Thought for the Writer's Day: Free
Audiobooks
I have some explaining to do. I hate that.
I normally post here each day. This post is dated Sunday
but I'm writing it four days late. Blame the American
Invisible, Inc. audiobook project. I wrote the text
version of American
Invisible, Inc. in 2002, and a lot of people were
kind enough to tell me they liked the story. In 2004,
we did a U.S. tour, meeting fans, and one couple even
flew in from France. I knew the manuscript was just
a draft, but I felt it had some merit, and it was nice
that other people thought so too. I was proud I'd finally
finished a novel after starting my first in 1997.
But now that I come to record the audiobook, I'm having
a rethink. This IS just a first draft, and the rough
edges are very apparent when I come to read it aloud.
Now that I have a microphone on my desk, it's much harder
to convince myself that a section is good enough when,
deep down, I have doubts.
Anyway, the bottom line is that I'm still editing the
fifth part of the American
Invisible, Inc. audiobook. I might be hypercorrecting,
but how can I tell?
DIY audiobooks intrigue me more and more. I really
think I'm on to something; recording a book can
make you a better writer. I don't think I'm being too
fussy about improving the quality of my writing, but
it's becoming harder and harder to release material.
 | How Much Do You Read? How many books have you read so far this year? It pays to keep a list, especially if you're a slow reader like me.
