Writing

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien Thought for the Writer's Day: How to Make Money as a Writer

I've been planning a new project this weekend. I won't bore you with the details, but it's the kind of thing that, a few years ago, I would have viewed as a book proposal. Now, I see it as a potential website. I don't need a publisher any more; my idea will generate enough sales from Amazon.com ads.

Think about this for a moment. A couple of years ago, you had to sell an idea to a publisher before you could find out if it was going to be a winner. Now, you can test it for yourself. This is a massive step forward for writers, and a significant worry for publishers. If you're willing to put the effort into creating something special, you can go and look for your audience right away.
