Writing
Thought for the Writer's Day: How
Do I Submit Audiobooks and Podcasts to iTunes?
OK, let me see if I can remember how this worked.
To submit a podcast to the iTunes Store, here's what
you need to do:
- Create a podcast in MP3 format.
- Upload the podcast to your web server.
- Download a copy of iTunes from the Apple
website. It's a free download, and you can find a
direct link at this
page.
- Create an RSS feed that conforms to the RSS 2.0
specification and includes recommended iTunes RSS
tags. I'll talk more about this step tomorrow.
- Test the RSS feed.
- Submit the URL for your RSS feed to iTunes.
Nearly all of these steps are trivial, which
means that almost writer who can podcast can get a book
on iTunes. I'm adding one of my books, American
Invisible, Inc. there. If you have iTunes, just
search for "American Invisible" or "invisible
girl" and you'll find me.
The step that wasn't trivial for me was creating the
RSS feed. Some blog hosts and web hosts offer you an
RSS feed for free. Mine didn't, so I had to do the work
by hand. It isn't the easiest thing I've ever done,
but it turned out to be something that I could teach
almost anyone to do. Come back tomorrow and I'll explain
more.
 | Help Someone Today, and it Won't Even Cost You a Penny: American Invisible readers have helped to raise funds for more than 14,000 thousand free mammograms, after reader Nucklehead Ed drew our attention to this good cause. "Going here and clicking on the button once a day may help save a life. That's not too much to ask, is it?" Nope.
